From big game tailgates to satisfying everyday snacks, chicken wings are a favorite choice for all sorts of hungry diners. They’re so deliciously craveable that it’s hard to believe they were essentially ignored by cooks until the invention of the famous Buffalo wing in the 1960s.
These days, an incredible number of restaurants offer unique takes on this simple, affordable, and mouthwatering dish. Here’s a look at some of the best copycat recipes and how to make them right in your home kitchen.
Real Anchor Bar Buffalo Wings
Start where it all began with the original Buffalo wing recipe from Buffalo's legendary Anchor Bar. This authentic preparation combines Frank's RedHot sauce with butter and a touch of vinegar for that signature tangy heat. The key is achieving the perfect balance of spice and richness that made Buffalo wings a global phenomenon. Master this classic, and you'll have a crowd-pleaser for any occasion.
Recreate Hooters' signature wings with their distinctive double-breaded coating that delivers maximum crunch. The secret lies in the seasoned flour mixture and proper frying technique that creates their famous crispy exterior. Pair with their iconic three-pepper sauce featuring cayenne, jalapeño, and habanero peppers blended with vinegar and spices for that perfect sweet-heat balance.
Features the perfect double-frying technique for ultimate crispy buffalo wings. The signature buffalo sauce combines Frank's RedHot with fresh jalapeños for layered heat that builds gradually rather than overwhelming your palate.
Buffalo Wild Wings Asian Zing Sauce & Wings Copycat Recipe
When you’re looking for wings, it’s hard to beat a place with them right in the name! Among the many unique sauces available at BWW, Asian Zing offers a powerful dose of Asian-inspired flavors with just the right amount of heat.
Skip the heavy sauces and let the chicken flavor shine with this zesty lemon pepper preparation. Fresh lemon juice and coarse black pepper create a bright, aromatic coating that enhances rather than masks the meat flavor. The butter-based finish adds richness while keeping the citrusy, peppery notes front and center.
Achieve Domino's beloved garlic parmesan wings using your air fryer for extra crispiness with less oil. The magic happens with real parmesan cheese, roasted garlic, and Italian seasonings creating that savory, umami-rich coating. This hands-off cooking method delivers restaurant results in less time.
Bonchon offers a unique take on chicken wings with roots in Korea. Combining a delicate, incredibly crispy fried coating with delicious Asian-inspired sauces, it’s a one-of-a-kind wing that’s surprisingly simple to make at home.
Another popular choice at Wingstop, this dry rub brings intense cajun flavors to your wings with a unique combination of common seasonings. Great for when you’re looking for less of a mess but just as much flavor!
Perfect for those who want sweet over heat, these copycat KFC wings feature the signature double-breaded coating with a caramelized honey BBQ glaze. The homemade sauce combines BBQ sauce, honey, and liquid smoke for that distinctive sweet-smoky flavor that are finger-lickin good.
These distinctive wings skip the fryer and are roasted in the oven instead. But don’t think that the lighter preparation means less taste. A simple, herby marinade produces a unique flavor while the accompanying caramelized onions add a sophisticated touch to this dish, equally at home as a main or appetizer.
Jerk chicken is popular all over the Caribbean, and now you can take Buffalo Wild Wings’ unique take on it into your home kitchen. With a mix of sweetness, tang, and spice, there’s something for everyone looking to satisfy that Super Bowl craving.
There’s nothing quite like the spice of peri peri (or piri piri) chicken, hailing from Portugal and popularized here by the chain Nandos. Follow this recipe to enjoy the same crisp skin, vibrant spice, and juicy interior that you find at the restaurant.
Can’t decide between spicy buffalo and pungent garlic? Why not enjoy both in the manner of Wings and Things? It’s a quick and easy modification to traditional hot wings, with easy to find ingredients but one that your taste buds will remember long after your plate is cleared.
Don’t feel like fighting to get the meat off the bone? The fried-chicken-focused fast-food chain Zaxby’s is known for its boneless wings, which taste even better in the famous honey mustard sauce. As this recipe shows, they’re easy to recreate at home and ultra-snackable.
All the buffalo wing flavor without the bones! Double-dredged chicken tenders are cut into bite-sized pieces and tossed in classic buffalo sauce – perfect for parties where guests want mess-free eating.
No matter what restaurant you’re craving or what sauce you’re in the mood for, there’s guaranteed to be a recipe on this list to satisfy what you’re looking for. With a little practice (and plenty of wings), you may wonder why you ever spent the time and money eating out! Just make sure to make enough wings — with flavors like these, they can sell out faster than you’d expect!
Stephanie,
I’d love t see a recipe that mimics Lindy’s Fried chicken hot wing sauce!!! We absolutely love this place and would very much enjoy being able to make this from home 🙂
Stephanie!!! The Wingstop Parmesan wings were PERFECT!! Can you do a CopyKat of the Brazillian Citrus Pepper wings from Wingstop?! They’re sooooo good!
Thanks for the variety of flavors! I would love to see a recipe for Wing Stop’s Hawaiian sauce! I LOVE this sauce and always ask for extra for dipping!
San-J Sweet and Tangy Polynesian Glazing and Dipping Sauce comes close. I found mine at Fresh Thyme, but it’s also sold at Wal-Mart Online at a minimum. I also used hickory in a smoke box while cooking the chicken, added a Habanero pepper and pineapple paste blended in a wet/dry spice blender to the sauce…used half to glaze while cooking, and half as a finishing sauce.
I’d also LOVE a Copykat recipe for Ale Emporium’s Hermanaki wings! I spend part of the year in Indianapolis and part of the year in Florida, and in Florida I always go through withdrawal! (I swear I could live on the Hermanaki boneless chicken fingers!)
I’m looking for T.K.s six pack, zesty Italian wing sauce. It’s not a bottle of the dressing it’s something different it’s dark in color and has a kick. If you could help I’d appreciate it. It’s located in Altoona and Hollidaysburg, Pa.
Reguardless of what your favorite baked wings are, steam them first for 13 min then proceed with the rest of the recipe. Steaming cuts the oven time by 20 % and insures an extremely moist result. 5-6 min under the broiler and you are back to crispy wings or you can finish them off on the grill.
My boys were just asking me for wings last night! We love ’em. Thanks for including a couple of mine in this awesome round up! There are so many good ones to try!
Can you please try and replicate the hot wing sauce for The Vine Tavern and Eatery?
I would love the recipe for Wingstops French fry seasoning.
